The Guatemalan Exporters Association (AGEXPORT) sought support from Cedeco to establish modules for the production of organic liquid fertilizer in different regions of the country; this way they will support sustainable crop production in coffee, cardamom, pepper and rambutan.
In 2015 Cedeco began supporting AGEXPORT in the establishment of modules for organic fertilizers production, in different organizations and regions, known as Bio-factories where different biofertilizers and protective products against diseases and pests are elaborated with local inputs, easily accessible and low cost.
The work involves training technicians and promoters of each participating organization, on the subject of organic liquid fertilizer production; meanwhile AGEXPORT assembles the bio-factory with the materials and procedures needed.
The first beneficiary organizations of this initiative, were Chajulense Association and Maya Ixil, which are focused on the production of organic certified coffee. Then some organizations located in the Zona Reyna were include, where cardamom is the main crop produced.
For 2016 the work continues supporting new organizations associated with AGEXPORT and Fundaeco, located in the Department of Izabal, in a Protective Springs Reserve. In this region the main crops are cardamom, pepper and rambutan, and 4 bio-factories have already been established, these will help small producers to carry out sustainable agricultural production in a conservation area.
